Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care Strategic Plan 2010-2015
Introduction
With fast paced changes in the external environment and increasing financial challenges,
the Board of Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care embarked on a comprehensive process to renew its
strategic plan and validate the path it has been successfully on for a number of years.
Strategic Planning Process
The 9 month process began in the spring of 2009 with a detailed environment scan. This was followed by
a full scope consultation with our stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, clients, caregivers,
community partners and funding agents. We undertook a strategic analysis to understand the key drivers
and trends that have significant impact on the future of Yee Hong. We held a strategic planning retreat
in the spring of 2009 with participation of Board members from the Centre and the Foundation, committee members,
senior staff and physicians.
A draft strategic plan with affirmation of the vision, mission, strategic goals and strategic directions followed.
The draft plan was deliberated by all the Board Committees and by the Centre Corporate Directors. A set of planned actions
were developed to demonstrate how the strategic directions would be achieved.
In December 2009, the Centre Board of Directors approved this Strategic Plan that will provide guidance for Yee Hong Centre for the next 5 years to 2015.

Strategic Directions 2010-2015
In alignment with our Vision, Mission and Values, Yee Hong is committed to pursuing two strategic directions in 2010-2015:
- STRATEGY A
Address the unmet needs of the Chinese Community by enhancing our programs and services.
- STRATEGY B
Advocate for and facilitate the development of culturally appropriate health and social services for ethnic communities.
Guided by the two strategies, we have expanded to six strategic directions that Yee Hong will focus on over the next five years.
- Improve quality of life for seniors residing in Yee Hong long-term care homes.
- Support Chinese seniors awaiting long-term care home placement.
- Promote healthy life-style to Chinese seniors and pre-seniors.
- Understand the changing needs of Chinese seniors in the Greater Toronto Area.
- Contribute to improved accessibility by ethno-cultural minority communities to culturally competent care.
- Enhance availability of end-of life care.
