Evidence of Yee Hong's Best Care
- Long life expectancy after admission: 7 years (provincial average: 2.5 years);
low mortality rate despite acuity of residents: 15.8% (provincial average: 40%).
- Low skin ulcer rate: 3% (provincial average: 30%).
- Below average fall rate: 8.9% (provincial average: 12.5%).
- Minimal use of restraints: 1.2% (provincial average: 18.3%).
- Longest waiting list in Ontario - all 805 beds occupied; close to 2,550 people on our waiting list as of July 1, 2010, accounting
for 10% of the provincial waiting list.
- Accredited by Accreditation Canada for 2009-12, our fifth consecutive accreditation since inception.
Best Care Needs Your Support
- Because of our long waiting list, the care needs of our residents upon admission are 9% higher than the Ontario average.
This has put additional pressure on staffing and resources.
- Our annual operating cost increased by 6% while government funding only increased by about 3%. Public funding is not
sufficient to support Yee Hong’s high quality care and the above-average care needs of our residents.
- Many seniors on our waiting list and their families depend on our community services while they are waiting for nursing home admission.
Some of these much-needed services are partially funded by the government while others are entirely sustained by donation dollars. Given
the competitive fundraising environment in recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for Yee Hong to maintain existing services and programs.
- We need to meet the needs of the ever growing senior population. Each year, Yee Hong serves 15,000 seniors and their families, providing critical support for
60% of those aged 75 and above in the Greater Toronto Area, while thousands are waiting for our services.
