A hero is a person who is admired for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. At Yee Hong, there are many such heroes who go beyond the call of duty to sacrifice their time and energy for others during COVID-19. Here are their stories.

At Yee Hong, PPE is provided for staff during work time. In the community however, surgical masks are still not easily accessible. People come up with creative ways to prolong the life of the face mask or make their own for use in public places. Joanna Yu, program assistant at the Mississauga Centre, makes cotton inserts in the evening for her Adult Day Program team mates who are re-deployed to the long-term care home to assist with resident care.

“The washable insert can be placed under the face mask to absorb moisture. They are made of cotton fabric to protect the skin from rashes caused by extended wear of synthetic face masks,” says Joanna. “Hopefully, this extra layer will stretch the life-span of the face mask, create less garbage and protect me and my team mates when going out.” A big thank you to Joanna who has her co-workers’ health and the environment in mind when sewing these mask inserts.
