The Honourable Dr. Helena Jaczek Meets with Yee Hong Students

Yee Hong welcomed the Honourable Dr. Helena Jaczek, MP, Markham Stouffville to its Markham home where she met five students working under the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Working in Resident-Centred Care and the Volunteer Program, Clinical Education and Resource Development, Robotics, Virtual Reality and 3D Innovation, Behaviour Support and the Volunteer Program, and Infection Prevention and Resident Engagement, the students spoke about their learnings and advancements in technology, inventory, volunteer programs, and a tracking system for resident care information.

The students also shared their projects with Dr. Jaczek. She had the opportunity to interact with a robot greeter being reprogrammed by one of the students and see a student developed, interactive resident activity that includes picking apples.

Our students bring fresh ideas, creativity, and compassion, helping to enhance the quality of life for our residents, support staff, and advance innovation in long-term care. Some of these ideas and innovations include a real-time meal audit, organization of wound-care supplies, creating educational posters and learning materials, 3D custom printing, resident technology solutions, an eye tracker program, development of daily games, a video and cinema program, infection control audits, hand hygiene promotion and a fun hand-washing initiative, and so much more.
